Developed together with Forschungszentrum Jülich and other partners, our magnetic immunodetection (MID) technology provides a versatile bioanalytics platform, suitable for both single and multiplex analyses.

With magnetic immunodetection (MID), we can rapidly detect a wide range of substances directly at the point of sampling. Detection times from analyte addition to signal readout are typically under 30 minutes, making MID significantly faster than conventional ELISA, while also offering enhanced sensitivity compared to standard immunoassays.

For low-molecular-weight compounds such as mycotoxins or antibiotics, MID achieves detection limits in the nano- to picomolar range, while proteins like cholera toxin subunit B can be detected at 0.7 pg/mL. Beyond small molecules and proteins, a variety of pathogens—including viruses, fungi, and bacteria—can be reliably and quantitatively measured. By employing magnetic nanosensors, the method can also be combined with a pre-analytical magnetic purification and enrichment step for even greater precision.

Detection of quarantine pests

The economic losses caused by pathogens in crops and ornamental plants, as well as their products, are considerable. The aim of the NanoSPoD project was to universally improve sample quality for all downstream molecular biological analysis methods, thus ensuring greater sensitivity and robustness of the systems.

 

Mycotoxin detection in food and agricultural products

Within the framework of the project, a competitive immunomagnetic detection method (cMID) was developed for the first time, which allows the sensitive and rapid quantitative detection of the mycotoxins aflatoxin B1, ochratoxin A, deoxynivalenol and zearalenone in different sample matrices with sensitivities below the legally prescribed limits.

 

Antibiotic detection in milk

Based on competitive magnetic immunodetection (cMID), a rapid on-site detection method for antibiotic residues in milk was developed, which is easy to perform and quantitatively detects various relevant antibiotics.

 

Detection of drinking water contamination

The aim of the project is to research, test and establish a field-ready, mobile rapid analysis system for detecting a wide range of microbial contaminants in water samples within two hours.
