New Agricultural Systems

Providing the global population with nutritionally valuable proteins in the future is a major challenge. In many regions around the world, protein supply is already inadequate, with climate change as well as growing population further aggravating the problem. Consequently, closed agricultural systems are increasing being used in order to produce and provide healthy, high-quality food. One big advantage of this “contained environmental agriculture” is that food can be produced resource-friendly all year round, independent of region and weather. At our Aachen location, we primarily focus on the following new agricultural systems: vertical farming of plants and fungi as well as the production of cultured meat and single cell protein. We provide our research partners and industry clients with solutions for optimized processes along the value chain – from resource to the final product.
