Fraunhofer lighthouse project "FutureProteins" meets investors

In the Fraunhofer flagship project FutureProteins new cultivation systems for an integrated production of foods and food ingredients from protein plants, algae, insects and fungi have been developed by a team of scientist from six Fraunhofer institutes. The consumption of energy, fertilizers, and water could be minimized while the quality, safety, taste, and nutritional value of the foods were optimized. By using renewable energy and by closing nutritional loops between the systems, a high degree of sustainability, outstanding yields and a profitable production were achieved. The cultivation systems offer highest productivity even in regions with extreme temperatures, poor soils, low rain or in areas that suffer from climate change.
