Freeway A45: Exit Olpe, continue in the direction of Winterberg/Lennstadt (B55) to Bilstein, then in the direction to Lennestadt/Winterberg (B236) to Schmallenberg.

Freeway A44 from direction Dortmund: Exit freeway junction Werl (No. 54), continue on freeway A445/A46 in the direction of Arnsberg, Exit Wennemen/Schmallenberg, continue via Freienohl, Wenholthausen, Bad Fredeburg (L541/B55/B511) to Schmallenberg.

Freeway A44 from direction Kassel: Exit Büren (No. 60), continue via Rüthen, Warstein, Meschede (L776/B516/L735/B55/B7), continue via Remblinghausen, Westernbödefeld, Bad Fredeburg (L740/L776/B511) to Schmallenberg.

Schmallenberg: Follow the signs to the district Grafschaft. In the center of Grafschaft turn left, Fraunhofer IME is signposted.
